INTERVIEW PREPARATION
How to prepare STAR interview examples
Practical general guidance. Adapt it to the vacancy and your own accurate experience.
Build an evidence bank
Prepare several real examples covering communication, problem solving, priorities, teamwork, customer/stakeholder situations and learning from setbacks.
Use STAR as structure
Situation gives enough context; Task explains your responsibility; Action focuses on what you did; Result explains what happened, changed or was learned.
Avoid memorised scripts
Know the facts of the example and practise explaining them. Then adapt the detail to the actual question rather than forcing a rehearsed answer.
Review afterwards
After an interview, record the questions and note which examples worked well. That gives you better preparation for the next one.
